Laleston National School

Church

The Laleston National School was built in 1874 promoted by the church with the aim of providing an education for less privileged children, Prior to the opening only children of wealth could attended school.

 

The land was donated by Dame Sophia Mackworth who owned the Great House, (Center right above) with funding for it's construction being raised from donations.


The school which could accommodate up to 80 children for fist time education was opened on the 5th of October 1874 by Ms Leah Pitson.

Trelales County Primary School situated in Well Street was opened on the 28th June 1927 by Mr George Sparks Headmaster who had transferred along with the pupils from the  Laleston National School on High Street where he had been Headmaster since January 1921. Mr Sparks remained headmaster at Trelales County Primary School until 29th July 1955.


The School for boys and Girls has grown with the pupil numbers over the years with additional extensions and teacher's from the original 80 pupils to 230 today, teaching Nursery, Infants & Junior children to a high standard the success of their teaching showing in the prizes and trophies on display.
